A Note from Mrs. Bartee
October is packed with opportunities for our Turn Around and Graduate (TAG) students to explore careers, make healthy choices, and take concrete steps toward graduation. Thank you for your partnership as we help students set goals, monitor progress, and celebrate growth.
At‑a‑Glance Calendar
Tue, Oct 7 — TSIA 2.0 Math (on campus)
Wed, Oct 8 — TSTC Electrical Showcase (Waco • 9:00 AM–1:15 PM • Lunch provided)
Thu, Oct 9 — Steered Straight Presentation (Healthy choices; 11:50 AM)
Mon, Oct 13 — Learning to Breathe counseling group (ongoing Mondays; opt‑in)
Tue, Oct 14 — FAFSA Advisors on Campus (9:30–11:30 AM)
Thu, Oct 16 — TSTC Career Exploration Field Trip (various programs incl. welding • Lunch provided • Return may be after noon)
Transportation & Attendance: Field trip transportation is provided by the district. Students must be present at school at the normal TAG start time unless otherwise approved. Standard attendance rules apply.
Event Details
TSIA 2.0 — Math (Tue, Oct 7)
Purpose: College and career readiness placement.
Prep: Practice resources are available in Room 2 and posted in Google Classroom.
Bring: Charged Chromebook and photo ID (if you have one).
TSTC Electrical Showcase (Wed, Oct 8 • 9:00 AM–1:15 PM)
Where: TSTC — John B. Connally Visitor Center (100 Campus Dr, Waco, TX 76705)
What: Rotating 30‑minute sessions in Electrical Power & Controls, Instrumentation Technology, Electrical Lineworker, and Electrical Construction Technology.
Notes: Lunch provided. Dress for walking and lab tours (closed‑toe shoes).
Steered Straight (Thu, Oct 9 • 11:50 AM)
Focus: Making positive life choices; avoiding drugs, vaping, and alcohol.
Audience: All TAG students.
Learning to Breathe (Ongoing Mondays)
What: Mindfulness‑based counseling curriculum supporting coping skills, emotional regulation, and resilience.
Participation: Opt‑in for interested TAG students.
FAFSA Support (Tue, Oct 14 • 9:30–11:30 AM)
Why it matters: Completing the FAFSA is a Texas graduation requirement.
What to bring (if possible): Social Security Number, driver’s license/ID, parent/guardian 2023 tax information (or most recent), and FSA ID (if already created).
Opt‑Out: If you do not want your child to complete the FAFSA, an opt‑out form is available. Please contact Mrs. Bartee to request and return the form.
TSTC Career Exploration Field Trip (Thu, Oct 16)
Focus: Explore a variety of TSTC programs (e.g., welding and more).
Lunch: Provided by TSTC.
Return Time: We may return after noon; if a student must be back by 12:00 PM, please notify Mrs. Bartee in advance so we can plan accordingly.
Registration: Students have been given instructions to register.
Reminders & Opportunities
Haircut Vouchers: SportsClips generously provided free haircut coupons. Students who need a haircut can see Mrs. Bartee.
Permission Forms: For off‑campus activities, students must return permission forms to the AEC office.
Dress & Safety: Closed‑toe shoes and school‑appropriate attire are required for lab tours.
Goal‑Setting: Students will set and review goals every three weeks; ask your student to share their current goals and progress.
